About Advanced Funeral Service Education Programs
Advanced Funeral Service Education Programs, or AFSEP, was founded in 2007 by two licensed funeral directors in New York State who have both been involved in Funeral Service Education for a number of years.
David Penepent currently manages the Herson Funeral Home in Ithaca, NY. He received his bachelor's degree in Psychology for the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh and his master's degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. Currently, he is working on his doctorate degree from Walden University where he is doing research on the attrition rate in funeral directing. David has written several articles that have been published in funeral industry publications. For the past five years, he has been the President of the Finger Lakes Funeral Directors Association where he has implemented several CEU programs for funeral directors in New York.
Thomas Fuller holds a Master's degree from the New School for Social Research in New York City. Mr. Fuller spent nearly fifteen years in funeral service education where he taught at the Simmons Institute of Funeral Service, the country's second oldest mortuary school. Mr. Fuller taught classes in embalming, restorative art, funeral home management, funeral history, and many others. A former Technical Director and Chairman of the Board of the Central New York Eye Bank and Research Corporation, Mr. Fuller has consulted on several projects including the Greensprings Natural Cemetery founding and National Geographic Channel's The Mummy Roadshow.
We are committed to providing Continuing Education programs for Funeral Directors in many states and working with the appropriate State authorities in each state to provide CEU's acceptable for credit in that state. Contact your local association to arrange a seminar with AFSEP.
